Best Time to Visit Saint Martin’s Island

The optimal time to visit Saint Martin's Island is from November to February. The island lacks electricity, making the heat unbearable during the winter months. Additionally, sea trucks between Teknaf and Saint Martin's Island only run during this period, offering several safe travel options.

Nevertheless, it's now feasible to visit the island securely outside of the peak winter season. Karnafuly Express, a new ship, provides transportation between Cox's Bazar and Saint Martin's Island throughout the year, except during monsoon season. While not recommended due to safety concerns, traveling by trawler or speed boat is also possible during the off-season.

Visiting Saint Martin’s Island During the Off-Season

There are advantages and disadvantages to visiting Saint Martin's Island during the off-season, outside of winter. On the positive side, the island is peaceful and quiet during this period due to the absence of tourists. Visitors can enjoy having the entire island to themselves, and interactions with locals are likely to be more authentic. Additionally, resort and food prices are typically lower due to reduced demand.

However, if the Karnafuly Express is not in operation, visitors must rely on unsafe trawlers or speed boats for transportation, which is not recommended. Furthermore, only a few resorts may remain open, and restaurants are likely to be closed, although visitors can likely arrange for food through their resort if they plan ahead.

Fortunately, the situation is expected to improve in the future. The Karnafuly Express will likely run throughout the year, except during monsoon season and bad weather, and a solar plant is currently under construction on the island, which will provide electricity. These developments will likely extend the island's tourist season, making it more accessible to visitors during the off-season.
